Middletown, Connecticut resident Rebecca Johnson, Senior Director, Disaster Services, American Red Cross Connecticut & Rhode Island, has received the Regional Excellence Award from the American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region.
Rebecca serves a disaster program manager responsible for the implementation of the disaster services program in an assigned geographic territory. She leads and manages a primarily volunteer team responsible for the implementation of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery programs in the local area. As part of her role, Rebecca ensures the development of Disaster Leadership Volunteers in each of the program support functional areas of the disaster cycle in order to meet the needs of the territory, region, state and division.
“Rebecca is one of the most committed Red Crossers that I have ever met,” said Chris Baker, Regional Chief Disaster Officer, American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region. “Her passion for our mission permeates in ways that it becomes contagious around her, with an amazing following of employees and volunteers who are always ready to deliver the mission in our community.”
Rebecca is responsible for the region’s busiest territory, comprised of 41 communities surrounding the Capitol City and with the highest population, 1.1 million. Rebecca also is the regional point of contact for the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign which aims to reduce the number of injuries and deaths due to home fires. Under Rebecca’s leadership the Connecticut and Rhode Island Region has surpassed their smoke alarm installation goal in only the second quarter of the fiscal year.
“Rebecca is a Red Crosser through and through, something that is hard to define, but you know exactly what it is when you meet her,” said Baker. “We are so proud and honored to have Rebecca as one of our leaders at the American Red Cross. I cannot think of anyone who deserves this award more than her. We are all honored to serve with Rebecca.”
