Red Cross caseworkers will be at the emergency shelter today (Saturday) from 1pm to 5pm and tomorrow

American Red Cross disaster volunteers responded to the residential fire that occurred at the Marco Polo high-rise on Friday afternoon.  Volunteer teams went to the scene and coordinated with the Honolulu Fire Department and the Honolulu City and County to assist with evacuations of residents to the Ala Wai Community Park and canteen services (food and water) were provided to first responders and evacuees.

Red Cross volunteers provided health services assistance, including refilling medical prescriptions and caring for infants and elderly.  Volunteers also provided emotional support to help residents begin the process of recovering after this disaster.

A Red Cross emergency shelter opened at Iolani School remains open for evacuees. 110 people were registered as of last night. Shelter residents were provided with recovery resources before returning back to their units as they were cleared by officials.

Red Cross caseworkers will be at the emergency shelter today (Saturday) from 1pm to 5pm and tomorrow (Sunday) from 9am to 5pm to initiate casework in providing assistance with immediate emergency needs as well as referrals, guidance or additional assistance as needed to help with the recovery process.

Residents are also encouraged to visit to register on the Red Cross Safe and Well website, a secure and private way that friends and family connect.
