A Night of Laughter and Support
Laughter doing good things for those in need

What’s better than a summer night on the Cape laughing with friends? How about supporting one of the Cape’s longest humanitarian organizations?

Thanks to a partnership between a local comedian and the American Red Cross, Cape Cod residents and visitors don’t have to choose. Starting August 2, spend summer Sunday nights enjoying a comedy performance that’s been called by the New York Times “so cheerfully intelligent, it makes audiences optimistic in the face of appalling reality.”

Comedian Jimmy Tingle will perform a series of shows every Sunday night at 7 p.m. through September 6 at the 1st Congregational Church of Wellfleet. A portion of every ticket sale goes directly to the American Red Cross of the Cape, Islands and Southeast Massachusetts.

For the past 100 years, the American Red Cross has been a part of the Cape community, supporting residents when floods and home fires strike. Working with community members and businesses helps the Red Cross know where and when help is needed.

Jimmy Tingle is regarded as one of the top social and political humorists in America. He has worked as a stand-up comic, producer, writer, actor, filmmaker and commentator in several mediums from the early 1980s to the present day. Tingle was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts where the social, political and economic diversity of that city laid the groundwork for his development as a performer and satirist. After graduating from Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1977 he started performing during the early standup comedy scene in Boston in the 1980s and quickly rose through the ranks from open-mike performances to paid engagements, headlining at comedy clubs, theaters and colleges nationwide.

“We’re so happy to collaborate with Jimmy to raise awareness about the Red Cross mission while everyone enjoys a night of entertainment,” said Hilary Greene, the American Red Cross Cape chapter’s executive director. “Throughout our history we have been solely a community supported organization with the generosity of our friends, neighbors, businesses, and community partners,’’
