Blood supply hurt by flooding

College girl donating blood at the Red Cross

We desperately need your help.

As you know, the Red Cross continues to work alongside community partners in the Southeast to provide safe shelter, food, and comfort to those affected by the recent floods.

In addition to those driven from their homes, the flooding has impacted our blood supply, causing the cancellation of more than 50 blood drives in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

All said, the Red Cross is facing a shortfall of more than 1,260 blood and platelet donations. Our friends in the Southeast are asking for help.

If you’re an eligible donor, please consider donating now at a local blood drive. You can schedule an appointment at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or redcrossblood.org.  Or download and use the Red Cross Blood Donor App at redcross.org/app.

Our Blood Donor Centers in Bangor and Portland will be open extended hours, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., on Saturday for your convenience.

Television shows and movies are full of superheroes, but you can be a real life hero by rolling up your sleeve to help those in need of life-saving blood and blood products. Please help us make a difference in the lives of so many.

Thank you for supporting the Red Cross.
