About 100 Citi employees volunteered for their 11th annual Global Community Day at the American Red Cross regional headquarters in Manhattan on Saturday June 11, 2016.
Citi volunteers assembled 2,250 personal care kits that are now being distributed to military veterans, service members and their families at VA hospitals in Northport, New York, Manhattan, and the Bronx as part of the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces program. Each kit contains hygiene items plus a “Thank You For Serving” card written by a Citi employee.
“Thank you Citi for your ongoing commitment of our mission,” said Josh Lockwood, Regional CEO, American Red Cross in Greater New York.
Worldwide, Citi employees took part in the financial service company's day of service. This event in Manhattan was one of hundreds taking place in over 500 cities this year.
The Red Cross also hosted Citi employees for a BBQ at one of the VA medical centers receiving a portion of the comfort kits in the Bronx.
"This was a powerful event for me and my son," said Citi employee Mary Neumann, who attended the BBQ. "We are grateful for the opportunity; it gave me an idea for volunteer service."
"This opportunity has opened up a door of inspiration for me to continue doing volunteer work," said Charise Acevedo, another Citi employee at the BBQ.
