August is American Red Cross Month in Cortland County. Legislature Chairman Donnell E. Boyden signed the Proclamation in observance of the organization’s 100th Anniversary of service in the community. In addition, Chairman Boyden joined Regional CEO Rosie Taravella in raising the Red Cross flag in front of the Cortland County Office Building.
The observance will be capped off with a community centennial celebration on Saturday, August 27 from 2-4 p.m. at the Cortlandville Fire Station, Tompkins St., Cortland.
Attendees will share memories by signing their names and writing messages on a commemorative display. The Red Cross is also compiling scrapbooks and an exhibition of historical Red Cross uniforms. Light refreshments will be served, including a cake specially prepared for the occasion.
The event is free and open to the public.
