Red Cross Volunteers Back on Ground in Caldwell and Burke Counties

(LENOIR, N.C. – Oct. 11, 2017) – American Red Cross disaster trained volunteers are back on the ground in Caldwell and Burke Counties assisting families impacted by Sunday’s storms. Tuesday, volunteers met with families to assess their damages and needs, including financial assistance. As of end of day Tuesday, the Red Cross has provided 140 meals, 200 snacks, and nearly 200 bulk items such as work gloves, tarps and rakes. In addition, nurses and mental health counselors have made more than 70 contact visits.

Throughout the day Wednesday, Red Cross volunteers are back in the hardest hit areas to continue assessing residents needs and provide supplies and assistance.

 

More than 30 local volunteers are assigned and working on this response.
