Metro New York Honors Volunteers

Metro New York Red Cross Honors Volunteers
"We are immensely grateful for our amazing volunteers—the reason that we are here today."

On Saturday, March 12, the American Red Cross Metro New York North chapter awarded some of its outstanding volunteers for the service they provided their residents during the past year.

Mary Young, the Metro New York North CEO, kicked off the event by saluting the Catholic Jazz Band of John F. Kennedy High School and its leader, Ava Gallo, for their exceptional support. Mary also recognized Putman County Executive, Mary Ellen O’Dell, who has worked tirelessly for the Red Cross and for our veterans and military members.

Mary summed up the significance of the event by noting: “As I look out at all of you today, I am filled with pride. Each of you has made a tremendous difference in our communities. You have brought hope when it was needed most, you have organized blood drives giving the gift of life, you have taught people how to be better prepared. Your work touches all layers of our communities. We are immensely grateful for our amazing volunteers—the reason that we are here today. You are the backbone of this organization.”
