Event Will Support Local Disaster Relief Efforts
Nearly 100 power and sail boats will join in the 31st Annual Erie Yacht Club Charity Regatta on Sunday, Aug. 30, benefitting the American Red Cross of Northwestern Pennsylvania.
“We are pleased that the Red Cross is once again named as the beneficiary of the Regatta charity event,” said Pam Masi, executive director of the local Red Cross chapter. “The Regatta’s support is critical to our ability to meet our mission of providing assistance to those affected by home fires, floods and other disasters. We can’t thank the Erie Yacht Club, their members, and supporters enough for the generosity.”
The Regatta will be held at the Erie Yacht Club, located at 1 Ravine Drive in Erie. The Skipper’s Meeting will kick off the event at 9:30 a.m. on the Clubhouse Deck; the race will start at 11:00.
The Erie Yacht Club has raised nearly a million dollars for local charities over the 31-year history of the Regatta, The Club and its members are have partnered with the American Red Cross of Northwestern PA for this year’s Regatta.
The event will include a 5-mile Bay Race for sailboats and a Power Cruise followed by live entertainment with the Salmon Frank Band from 2 to 6 p.m., a Caribbean barbecue buffet served from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and a trophy presentation, among other festivities.
Both Spinnaker and Jib and Main class sailboats are welcome to participate in the event; powerboats can be entered as spectator boats. Registration for all boats is $10 per foot.
All proceeds will benefit the disaster relief efforts of the American Red Cross. Last year, the Greater Erie County Chapter responded to approximately 92 local emergencies and assisted more than 400 people with their immediate, disaster-caused needs such as food, clothing and shelter.
