American Red Cross Central Pennsylvania Region CEO Jeri Sims deployed to Houston early Sunday morning, October 15, in a leadership role to support continued Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
Seven weeks after the hurricane made landfall causing the greatest flooding event in U.S. history, the Red Cross continues to provide relief to many of the hundreds of thousands severely impacted and hundreds still living in shelters.
The Central PA Region of the American Red Cross has deployed nearly 90 volunteer and staff members in response to disasters since Hurricane Harvey made landfall in late August to eight states, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and now to California in response to the wildfires.
“As the public’s attention shifts to the horrific wildfires in California, it’s important to keep in mind that we also still have thousands of volunteers on the ground helping people devastated by recent hurricanes,” said Sims. “There’s a long road to recovery ahead for the people of Texas and we continue to stand by their side in the challenging weeks and months to come.”
