It’s great to see so many...supporting this year’s Ride for the Red.

Roughly 100 cyclists from throughout the area participated in this year’s Ride for the Red along a portion of the Great Allegheny Passage on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Riders started from either the West Newton Trail Head or from Pittsburgh’s South Side Works and rode as little or as far as they chose. Riders opting to ride the complete round trip between West Newton and Pittsburgh covered 64 miles.

“It’s great to see so many individuals riding and so many local companies supporting this year’s Ride for the Red,” noted Dan Tobin, American Red Cross Western Pennsylvania Region Director of Marketing and Communications. “The money raised today will support local Red Cross Disaster Relief.”

Last year alone the Red Cross in Western Pennsylvania assisted over 4,100 people who were impacted by local disasters such as home fires and floods. Since all Red Cross disaster relief is provided free of charge, the Red Cross relies on the generosity of individual and corporate donors to provide the funds needed to support those affected by disasters big and small.

Tobin added, “Disaster situations can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Thanks to our extremely generous donors, we are able to provide assistance whenever disaster strikes.”

Organizations supporting this year’s Ride for the Red included: Jones Lang LaSalle, IP, Inc. (JLL), Scott Electric, UPMC Health Plan, UPMC Emergency Medicine, Duquesne Light Company, Wabtec, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Elliott Group, Hunter Associates, GNC Live Well Foundation, Control Analytics, Inc., Diamond Medical Supply, SHOP ‘n SAVE/SUPERVALU, Toyota of Greensburg, Buhler Technologies, and Advantage Engineers.
