Supporting Lockhart hot air balloon crash

In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 30th, 2016 a hot air balloon crashed near Lockhart, Texas in Caldwell County. Sixteen lives were lost in the accident, which turned out to be the deadliest in U.S. history. Red Cross volunteers worked diligently to respond to the scene that day to support first responders and the families of the victims.

Trained disaster volunteers provided canteen services to emergency responders and investigators on the scene, offering snacks, hydration and hot meals. They have remained each day as the investigation continues. Red Cross health and mental health workers are also on the ground in the area, supporting the victims' families at a Family Assistance Center as they begin to cope with this devastating tragedy. Caseworkers are helping provide travel and lodging assistance for any families that need to travel to the area from out of town.

These dedicated Red Cross volunteers will remain on the ground in Caldwell County providing help and comfort as long as they are needed.
