The American Red Cross does not solicit donations in this manner

Cheyenne, WY, Thursday, September 16, 2016 — It has been brought to our attention that there are a people in the Cheyenne, Wyoming area posing as Red Cross workers that are soliciting donations for the Red Cross by approaching businesses and individuals. These people are not official Red Cross volunteers nor staff and are not associated with any Red Cross fund raising effort.

According to witnesses, the imposters were wearing “homemade looking Red Cross shirts” and carrying an old Red Cross donation can. When they were confronted by an actual Red Cross volunteer the imposters left the scene quickly.

The American Red Cross does not solicit donations in this manner so do not give them a donation. If you encounter these imposters you should contact local law enforcement. All Red Cross volunteers should have a photo ID on their person identifying them as an official Red Cross worker. All Red Cross fund raising efforts will be announced through social media and traditional media in advance and will include locations where donations are accepted.

If you would like to donate to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief you can donate on line at redcross.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS. If you have questions or concerns about local Red Cross activities or fund raising please call 307-638-8906.
