Three volunteers responded to the fire – which started in a vacant home – around 3 a.m. There, they provided about 20 firefighters and a two police officers with water, Gatorade, granola bars, peanut butter crackers and lots of coffee.
“They kept saying ‘thank you for being here’,” explained Hilary Greene, Executive Director of the Cape Cod and Islands Red Cross chapter. “It was really rewarding.”
