Captain Richard Phillips will be the special guest presenter at the 12th Annual Heroes breakfast on Friday, March 28, 2014 at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis.
Captain Phillips is originally from Winchester and graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He is best known as the Captain of the MV Maersk Alabama during its hijacking by Somali pirates in 2009.
Though credited worldwide for his heroism during the pirate attack, Capt. Phillips modestly said “most heroes don’t have a choice: they just do the best they can.”
Capt. Phillips truly exemplifies the heroic spirit and will help to honor the class of 2013 Red Cross Heroes.
Cape Air is the presenting sponsor for the breakfast with Dan Wolf, founder and CEO as the honorary chair. Returning as Master of Ceremonies will be Geri Denterlein, President and founder of Denterlein and former editorial director at WBZ television. The Cape Cod & Islands Heroes Breakfast is the only event of its kind: it recognizes heroes throughout our community who perform extraordinary acts of courage by saving someone’s life, helping in the rescue of someone in need, or who has committed countless hours of service to an organization or community. No other event highlights ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things- regardless of the organization or community they serve- and informs us of these amazing people who make this such a special place to live. The event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. To learn more or to purchase sponsorships or tickets, visit redcross.org/CapeCodandIslands or call (508) 775-1540.
