More than $75,000 was raised at the Cape, Islands, and Southeast Massachusetts’ 13th Annual Heroes Breakfast on April 10, 2015. Thanks to our supporters and donors, the Heroes Breakfast continues to be the largest fundraiser of the year for this chapter of the Massachusetts Red Cross.
The Master of Ceremonies, Geri Denterlein, serves as a regional Red Cross Board Member and Tiffany Circle Member who graciously led the event. The Honorary Chair, Senator Dan Wolf, the founder and CEO of Cape Air our presenting sponsor of the breakfast, added another $5,000 challenge gift to the anonymous $5,000 gift to start the fundraising in a big way. Attendees rose over $18,000 to match the $10,000 challenge for a total of over $28,000. Senator Wolf led the crowd in a remarkable fundraising frenzy.
During this event, 18 remarkable and brave individuals who have all selflessly performed lifesaving acts or served their community in an extraordinary way were honored. Seven heroes shared their inspiring stories on how their Red Cross CPR training helped save a life. Sgt. Brendan O’Byrne shared moving insight on deployment and how service members are affected afterwards. Award categories included the Life Saving Hero Good Samaritan Hero, Youth Hero, Professional Hero, Community Impact, Community Service Hero, Individual with Disability Hero and Armed Forces Hero. This year, all the award categories were named after prominent people in the Chapter’s past to celebrate the centennial of the Cape Cod Chapter.
This amazing event allows the Red Cross to recognize local heroes while raising money to continue our mission of alleviating human suffering. The event raised a total of over $75,000 for local disaster response in our chapter area- thanks to all of our sponsors, donors, attendees and local heroes for supporting the Red Cross of Cape, Islands, and Southeast Massachusetts.
