The American Red Cross and Cinemagic Stadium Theaters invite eligible blood donors to help avoid blood shortages this summer.

The Cinemagic Stadium Theater on County Road in Westbook, is hosting the 9th Annual Marathon Blood Drive, from 10 a.m. -  10 p.m., on Friday, August 1, and again on Saturday, August 2, from 7 a.m. -  5 p.m..

Summer months are among the most challenging times of the year for blood and platelet donations.  However, the need is constant and each day, the Northern New England Region (Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) of Red Cross must collect an average of 700 units of blood each day to maintain a sufficient supply.

Blood donations are used for surgeries, trauma victims, to support cancer treatment, and for many other life-threatening conditions. It is estimated that every two seconds, someone in the United States will need a blood transfusion.

All presenting donors will receive a free Cinemagic movie ticket, along with a t-shirt from the Red Cross.  Incentives are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash.

Donors can schedule a time to donate by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or by registering online at redcrossblood.org.
