TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., February 21, 2014 — The American Red Cross of Northwest Michigan has
announced that Kevin Bavers will step down from his position as the chapter’s executive director on
March 5th. He has been a solid leader of change and has initiated sustained program and financial
development growth over the past 6 years. As he seeks to pursue other community opportunities, the
chapter’s board stands ready to begin the search process.
“While Kevin will be greatly missed, we understand and respect his desire for additional growth,” said
Doug Morgenstern, board chair for the American Red Cross of Northwest Michigan. “We wish him the
very best in this next chapter of his life and are thankful for the 6 years of service he has dedicated to the
Northwest Michigan office. He has done a tremendous job stabilizing this chapter, expanding our
capacity to serve, and helping build a solid team and a very engaged board - focused on the sustainability
of our mission.”
Bavers plans to remain involved as a volunteer disaster responder where he will be able to continue to
serve the mission of the Red Cross during times of need.
“I have enjoyed the opportunity to lead such a fine and dedicated team of staff and volunteers and I
couldn’t be more proud of them,” Bavers said. “There will always be a special place in my heart for the
Red Cross and the mission I so strongly believe in. I am excited now that I am able to make my own
transition and can rest assured that our local community will continue to have a strong Red Cross.”
A search committee is already being recruited and a formal announcement will be made indicating how
interested candidates may apply once the committee is ready to proceed.
“While we would like to fill the director position as quickly as possible, it is important that we find the
best person for the job and the right fit for our current team, so we can continue on a strong positive
trajectory,” said Tim Lipan, Senior Chapter Executive for the American Red Cross of West Michigan.
During the interim the chapter staff and board will work closely with its regional team throughout West
Michigan to support local day to day efforts and ensure the continuation of fiscally sound operations.
Services will continue uninterrupted throughout the transition.
