Chapter one of 10 to receive West Rotary donation

Money to help with local disasters
We feel it’s an organization that needs our money here in the community.

Raffling off a Ford Escape shifted ticket sales into high gear providing the Jefferson City Rotary West Club with enough money to donate $3,000 to the American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter and nine other local non-for-profit organizations.

“The main reason we do the car raffle is to make these donations possible,” said Sally Graham, the Rotary’s raffle committee chair. “We are a service above self organization,”

Members of the club voted on 10 organizations to receive a $3,000 donation from raffle money raised and Red Cross was one of the 10.

“We feel it’s an organization that needs our money here in the community,” Graham said. “We ask organizations to get up and tell what the money is to be used for because we want it to be kept in the community. We felt the Red Cross would do that here.”

Executive Director Dave Griffith, a Rotarian himself, accepted the donation at Friday’s club meeting and explained the money will be used to help local families impacted by a disaster, such as a house fire.

“We appreciate the work club members put into selling the raffle tickets,” Griffith said. “I can assure club members their donation to the Red Cross is very much appreciated and will be put to good use.”

Members sold 2,500 raffle tickets. The raffle winner opted to take a cash prize instead of the car, which was provided by Joe Machens Capital City Ford Lincoln.

Other agencies receiving a donation were: Samaritan Center; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Dreams to Reality; Vogelweid; Halo; Special Learning Center; Rape and Abuse Crises Service; Boys and Girls Club; and the Rotary Foundation.
