The American Red Cross North Jersey Region recognized some of our every day heroes during Celebrate Red!, held on March 21 at TPC Jasna Polana in Princeton. Guests toasted the incredible impact of three unique honorees and enjoyed wonderful cuisine, fabulous auctions and danced to live entertainment by The Franklin & Alison Orchestra.
“We are proud to highlight the significant contributions made by members of our community at Celebrate Red! this year,” said Mathieu Nelessen, regional CEO, American Red Cross North Jersey Region. “Our honorees have each made a remarkable impact on our ability to carry our mission forward here in New Jersey and beyond.”
The Red Cross recognized the late Mrs. Dorothy (Butz) Noonan, recipient of The William W. Augustine Award; the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce, recipient of the Community Hero Award; and Church & Dwight Co. Inc., this year’s recipient of the Bob Clancy Culture of Caring Award.
Board Member Robert Mooney delivered a moving tribute to honoree Dorothy ‘Butz’ Noonan, who passed away on February 19th. Butz and her late husband, William J. ‘Bill’ Noonan, dedicated many years of extraordinary devotion and service to the Red Cross, including Bill’s leadership as Chairman of the Board. Butz and Bill made it their mission to help others when life dealt a difficult hand and were extremely committed to putting the needs of others first.
The Red Cross honored Church & Dwight Co. Inc., located in Ewing, New Jersey, as recipient of the 2014 Bob Clancy Culture of Caring Award. For nearly 20 years, Church & Dwight has supported the Red Cross with donations for disaster relief services, programs and events. As an annual donor, Church & Dwight’s contributions help fund the day-to-day service which enables the Red Cross to respond to an average of 70,000 disasters every year. Board Member John Keller of Silver Line by Andersen, last year’s Culture of Caring Award recipient, presented the award to fellow Board member Patrick de Maynadier, Executive Vice President & General Counsel with Church & Dwight. Through both emergent times of disaster and those less-critical days, Church & Dwight continues to support the Red Cross mission, exemplifying a Culture of Caring.
The Culture of Caring Award is presented in memory of Red Cross board member Bob Clancy. A strong Red Cross promoter beset with volunteer spirit, Mr. Clancy was convinced that being involved with the mission of the Red Cross could help create a culture of caring in the community. Past recipients include Silver Line by Andersen, The Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, Cheryl Mooney, Robert E. Humes, William Augustine, the Long family, Merrill Lynch, William J. Noonan, and William and Joan Schreyer.
Board Chair Susan Hassmiller presented the Community Hero Award to the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber fosters a spirit of civic engagement that paves the way for significant community programming and partnerships to be realized. During the last fiscal year, Chamber members cumulatively donated more than $5.9 million to support Red Cross community programs, preparedness education and disaster relief efforts. Beyond financial contributions, members participate annually in every facet of the Red Cross mission including blood drives, health and safety courses, volunteering with community programs such as Home Delivered Meals and “Adopt-A-Unit” campaigns to support members of the Armed Forces.
