The American Red Cross North Jersey Region appreciates the dedicated work of our volunteers who selflessly provide their time and compassion assisting others. Volunteers help families displaced by home fires, donate blood that helps save lives, teach community preparedness, and countless other contributions. Here’s a look at some of the volunteers we placed in the spotlight during recent events:
Blood Donor Recognition Event – June 5, 2013, West Orange, NJ
Pictured above are five exceptional blood donors who were honored for their long-term devotion to donating blood to the Red Cross during this event at Mayfair Farms. As a whole, these five donors have contributed an astonishing 791 pints of blood, potentially making a difference in the lives of 2,373 blood recipients!

Volunteer recognition was highlighted during this meeting held June 19th at the NJ Sharing Network in New Providence.
Twenty Years of Volunteer Service:
The Diana Burn Rosen Award was presented to Deana Fox. Deana has improved the Adapted Aquatics program and provided a safe and friendly learning environment where she bonds with participants and their families. This award is dedicated to the former Board Chair who began the local Adapted Aquatics Program.
Three members leaving the New Jersey Crossroad Board of Directors – Steve Theroit, Patty Christian and Terry Turko – were recognized for their years of dedicated service.
Celebrate Red! – May 2, 2013, Florham Park, NJ
Celebrate Red! was held at The Park Savoy Estate in Florham Park and honored the Quinn Family of Sussex County and the remarkable service of volunteers in the community. The Quinn Family’s dedication to the American Red Cross began nearly a century ago in 1917 with Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn Sr.’s involvement with organizing humanitarian work in Franklin. For 18 years, the Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn Sr. Award Celebration honored volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts to assisting the Red Cross in lending a helping hand to others.
Following in this tradition, these volunteers were honored during the event:
Marty Campbell of Hopatcong for Disaster Services
Rose Cipriano of Millburn for Community Services and Braille
Richard Bente of Hamburg for Superstorm Sandy Disaster Relief
Jack Clemence of Short Hills for Blood Services
Bill and Margaret Kelly of Teaneck as Every Day Heroes
Sherry Clain for Superstorm Sandy Disaster Relief
Volunteer Picnic – June 9, 2013, Fairfield, NJ
Volunteer Services organized a volunteer picnic as a fun-filled way to thank all of the Red Cross volunteers in the region on June 9th at the chapter location in Fairfield. Volleyball, hula hooping, and a water balloon toss were among the many activities that volunteers and Red Cross members participated in as an exciting way to celebrate the efforts of the volunteers and their continued compassion and generosity.
Congratulations to all of the volunteers who have provided exceptional service over the years and many thanks to everyone for their time and effort in helping us help others!
