Volunteers this week stuffed backpacks with needed items to support the “Totes for Hope” program of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts’ Service to Armed Forces Program. The totes are used as an outreach tool for Massachusetts organizations working with veterans who are homeless or at risk for being homeless. This week at the Red Cross’ Worcester site, volunteers assembled 150 of the totes. Each tote contains soap, razors, wet wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, skin cream and wool socks. The donation includes blankets to be paired with each tote. Totes were delivered to Veterans Inc., a New England agency based in Worcester that works directly with the homeless provide permanent housing, prevent veteran suicide and provide general support. The project is the third to be funded by BNY Mellon and a generous donation from Ocean State Job Lot. The American Red Cross of Massachusetts provides care and support to members of Massachusetts’ military, veterans and their families through traditional and innovative programs aimed at preventing, preparing for and responding to the unique challenges that arise as a result of the deployment cycle and beyond.
