The Finger Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting several Volunteer Enrollment events from Feb. 25 through June at the Red Cross offices in Seneca Falls and Newark.

The events are open to anyone interested in learning about the ways in which the Red Cross supports residents in Seneca, Wayne and Yates counties. Red Cross staff members and current volunteers will be available to discuss volunteer opportunities in several lines of service: Disaster Services, Blood Services, Service to the Armed Forces, and Health and Safety Services. The events will be held every fourth Wednesday of the month from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at the Red Cross offices in Seneca Falls or Newark.

Here are the dates, times and locations for the Volunteer Enrollment events:

Seneca Falls: Red Cross office, 83 W. Bayard St., Seneca Falls

• June 24: 1:00 - 2:30 PM

Newark: Red Cross office, 400 S. Main St., Newark

• May 27: 1:00 - 2:30 PM

The Red Cross is also seeking volunteers to join its Disaster Action team (DAT), which responds to local emergencies and large nationwide disasters. Locally, DAT volunteers respond to emergencies such as house fires, floods, transportation accidents and natural disasters. Relief efforts range from providing food and shelter to offering emotional support to the victims.

The Red Cross invites residents to attend an event and consider volunteering regardless of their experience levels. While needs may vary based on current events, the Red Cross will do its best to accommodate everyone’s desire to get involved.

“The Red Cross is always looking for people with various backgrounds, talents, and skill levels to join our team,” said Colleen McCabe, Volunteer Specialist for the Southern Tier Chapter.

“Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that the Red Cross delivers its services in our communities. Please join us to learn more about how you can serve your community as a Red Cross volunteer.”
