The American Red Cross continues to provide help for people affected by devastating flooding in Yates County earlier this week. A shelter remains open at Penn Yan Academy, located at 305 Court Street. Sleeping quarters are available, and people not staying at the shelter are welcome for a hot breakfast, lunch and dinner, water and snacks, and access to showers. Caseworkers are also on hand to help affected families develop immediate and long-term recovery plans, and clean-up kits with mops, buckets, bleach and more are available.
Saturday, Red Cross volunteers were stationed at Elm Street and Main in Penn Yan, distributing water and clean-up kits, and an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) delivered kits and water into some of the hardest hit areas in Yates County, including Italy, Guyanoga and Bridgeport. The ERV will be delivering assistance to families again Sunday, and volunteers will once again be stationed at Elm and Main in Penn Yan.
As of 3pm Saturday, the Red Cross has provided the following services since the response began early Wednesday morning:
The Red Cross also continues to help people affected by flooding in other areas across the WNY/Finger Lakes Region, including Gowanda, Randolph and Silver Creek. Volunteers will be distributing clean-up kits to help people as they return to homes at the following times and locations:
