My name is Lori Gonzalez. I am working at the Blood Donation Center on Route 57 in Liverpool on Wednesdays and I have been at the Red Cross for a little over a year now.
I found out online what the Red Cross does and after reading and watching various videos and how they are looking for volunteers I decided to volunteer my time to the Red Cross. I work at the front desk registering and greeting people.
I enjoy doing my volunteer work at the Red Cross. It is very rewarding for me and I get to meet people in the community as well, such as my supervisors Amy, Alexis and Chris. I also met my new friend, Kylie Cox, at the Blood Center. Kylie volunteers with me at the Canteen and sometimes at the front desk with me.
Volunteering for the Red Cross has affected me in good way by getting me out and doing different things in the community. As part of my job, I have been learning about different blood types and how donating blood helps others. It has helped me to try to encourage people to donate blood. To give people an incentive to donate blood during National Volunteer Week in April, we offered free Frosty coupons from Wendy's.
“We love having Lori as part our volunteer team because she always greets our blood donors with a smile and is always willing to help our staff and other volunteers with the registration process. We’re so happy that Lori enjoys her volunteer time with us and is helping us promote the constant need for blood in our community.” --- Julie Mucilli, Volunteer Specialist for the American Red Cross Central New York Chapter.
