Shelter Open at Westcott Community Center in Response to Flooding

The American Red Cross opened a shelter overnight for Central New York residents displaced by flash flooding. Volunteers are currently operating a shelter located at the Westcott Community Center, 826 Euclid Avenue in Syracuse, which had 18 residents as of 6:30 am.


The shelter will be transferring to St. Lucy’s Church, 432 Gifford Street in Syracuse at approximately 2pm Wednesday. The Red Cross will be partnering with Centro to transport residents to the new facility. Rescue Mission has also partnered with the Red Cross to help provide meals for people affected by this severe weather. Anyone in need of assistance can call the Red Cross at 315-234-2200.


The Red Cross remains in contact with emergency officials across Central New York and is prepared to launch an additional response as needed.
