We are delighted that Mr. Gural and the patrons of Vernon Downs have once again helped their neighbors by making a generous donation to the American Red Cross.

Chairman of American Racing and Entertainment Jeff Gural was at the Vernon Downs Event Center Terrace Sept. 6 to make check presentations to the American Red Cross of Central New York and the Food Bank of Central New York.

Gural presented a $50,000 check to Disaster Relief for the American Red Cross of Central New York for residents who were impacted by the late June floods in the Mohawk Valley and Central New York. The money was raised from special $5 buffets held from Aug. 12-18 at Vernon Downs, and Gural personally donated additional funds.

“We are delighted that Mr. Gural and the patrons of Vernon Downs have once again helped their neighbors by making a generous donation to the American Red Cross,” said Rosie Taravella, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Central New York Region. “The late June floods damaged or destroyed more than 1,100 homes in Madison, Oneida and Herkimer counties, and this donation will go toward our efforts to aid the long-term recovery of the more than 2,400 impacted residents.”

The Food Bank of Central New York received a check for proceeds raised from the June 15 Gretchen Wilson concert at Vernon Downs. In addition to the $15 ticket cost, Gural personally donated an additional $10 per ticket, bringing the total donated amount to $67,920 for the Food Bank.

“During these difficult times, I recognize that many people in our area continue to struggle and I thought this was the best way for myself and our company to give back to our community and express our thanks for the support we have received over the years,” Gural said.

Vernon Downs Casino & Hotel is open year-round with video gaming machines, simulcast horse racing, a live harness racing season, restaurants, a sports bar and special entertainment events. The property employs almost 300 people, offers an all-suites hotel and a newly expanded Events Center.
