Several neighborhoods in Oneida were hard hit by the recent flooding as evidenced by the mounds of debris in front of many homes. A musky smell permeates the areas around many of them.
Roxanna Baumeister is helping her Grandmother clean up after the basement and first floor of her home was flooded. “She is 76 years old” Roxanna said as she stood in sock feet at the Red Cross bulk distribution truck to collect clean-up items for the task ahead. Fortunately ‘Roxanna’s Grandmother has six family members who have stepped up to help.
Roxanna’s Grandmother resides in one of the 2,466 homes that sustained some level of damage. In the days following the storms, 405 American Red Cross volunteers have sheltered 315 individuals, distributed 20,761 items and served over 29,000 meals and snacks.
