Safelite Group Inc., the country’s largest automotive glass company donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross Central-Southeast Ohio Region to support disaster relief and other community services. The check was delivered by a group of high-ranking executives including Gary Lubner, CEO of Safelite’s parent company, Belgium-based Belron, and Tom Feeney, President and CEO of Safelite Group, which is headquartered in Columbus, OH.
“We are thrilled that Safelite and its leaders continue to support the mission of the Red Cross in such a generous way,” said Matt Bertram, CEO of the American Red Cross Central-Southeast Ohio Region. “We couldn’t deliver all the services that we do without amazing donors like Safelite. They’ve been a big part of what we do in Central Ohio for many years, not just financially, but also as volunteers.”
Safelite Group is a key member of Ready When the Time Comes, the Red Cross nationwide corporate volunteer program that taps the human resources of corporate America. The American Red Cross trains employees from partner companies and mobilizes them as a community-based volunteer force when disaster strikes. Safelite employees are trained mainly in Disaster Assessment, which enables them to estimate the damages in an emergency and in Shelter Operations, to help those displaced from their homes.
Safelite is also a sponsor of the Community Transportation Program, a service of the Red Cross that provides free transportation by appointment to necessary medical visits for elderly and disabled in our neighborhoods. In its most recent fiscal year, the American Red Cross Columbus Chapter provided 16,840 one-way trips, by volunteer and staff drivers. The vital transportation service often makes the difference for seniors to continue to live independently in their own homes.
The group of Safelite executives visited the Columbus Chapter offices, including a demonstration of the workings of its Disaster Operations Center, prior to the check presentation. “We are very pleased to support the efforts of the American Red Cross here in Central Ohio,” said Mr. Lubner. “Seeing how our donations and our employees are deployed to prepare for and ensure their safety and that of their families and neighbors is humbling. It makes us even more proud of the people who work for Safelite.”
