Volunteers were a huge help at a festive party to sort the Holiday Mail for Heroes cards, getting them ready for distribution. The American Red Cross committed to the U.S. Armed Forces that any mail distributed to our troops would be bio-scanned, so once the cards go through that process, they’re shipped back to the chapter to separate them for the different branches of the service, or other specific service members. Many of the hand-made cards from children contained adorable messages and drawings.
Some of the cards were then distributed to service members and veterans throughout Central Ohio. AmeriCorps members, who’ve been hugely involved in the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign, made a special trip to the National Guard members at Rickenbacker Air Force base. We are very appreciative of the support from the community for this event: IGS Energy, State Farm, Giant Eagle, and Monica Morgan Whitehead, in memory of LTC Rollin E. Morgan.
