Red Cross Offers Wildfire Preparedness Tips
Red Cross tools can help families prepare for wildfires and increase community resilience

The outbreak of the Two Bulls Fire west of Bend has caused some area residents to evacuate their homes. Today's conditions may require further evacuations.

The American Red Cross offers these tips to be prepared for such activity:

  • Back your car into the garage or driveway to leave on a moments notice
  • Put an emergency preparedness kit in your vehicle; be sure to include items such as prescription medications
  • Confine pets to one room so that you can find them quickly if you need to leave
  • Choose a route away from the fire but watch for changes in the speed and direction of fire and smoke
  • Leave natural gas on, unless local officials advise otherwise
  • Turn off propane gas service valves
  • Listen to local radio or television and follow the instructions of local emergency officials
  • These tips, and other important wildfire safety information, are available on the Red Cross Wildfire App. The app is free and can be downloaded to iPhones and Android devices. For more information, visit
