These organizations supported the American Red Cross in at least three areas. Blood Services, Health and Safety, Disaster Preparedness, and Chapter support.
AMERICAN LICORICE American Licorice, headquartered here in Bend, has been a reliable, long-term partner of ARC. The company is a Full Service Class Health and Safety Partner, through their on-site blood drives have donated 142 units of blood and, through employee drives, have made significant cash donation to the Japan Earthquake and Superstorm Sandy disaster relief efforts.
BEND LaPINE SCHOOL DISTRICT The School District maintains a very active Red Cross Club and has renewed their Authorized Provider Agreement to deliver health and safety training. The District provides our Chapter with access to their facilities for shelter sites during local disasters, and through their blood drives have collected some 6000 units.
CITY OF BEND The City has long maintained a first responder’s partnership with the ARC, and we would like to offer special thanks to the Fire Department. Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Larry Medina is a member of our Board of Directors. City blood drives have collected 245 units. This past December, the City designated our Chapter of the Red Cross as the recipient of the proceeds from the Annual City Employees Christmas Party and resulted in a cash donation of approximately $2400.
DESCHUTES COUNTY LIBRARY The Library has also been a reliable, long-term partner. They are a Full Service health and safety training partner and have hosted public "Together We Prepare" training sessions. The Library has purchased three AEDs from the Red Cross and through hosted drives, has collected 1800 units of blood. We are also in the process of developing a Memorandum of Understanding with their Emergency Management Department.
DESCHUTES BREWERY Deschutes Brewery has been a valued and diverse partner to our Chapter of the Red Cross. A senior management representative has served on our Board for several years. The current member is CFO Peter Skrbek. The Brewery had made significant financial contributions to the ARC, including being an annual sponsor of the Heroes Breakfast. They are a Full Service health and safety training partner and have purchased an AED and AED supplies. They have donated some 1500 Pint Fest Coupons to support Pint Fest drives bi-monthly and have hosted an ARC phone app promotion at the downtown Deschutes Brew Pub. The Brewery has also donated space and food here at the Mountain Room for volunteer and employee recognition events. We are truly grateful for our partnership with Deschutes Brewery.
St. Charles HEALTH SYSTEM The St. Charles Health System has also been a diverse partner with the Red Cross. A representative of St. Charles, Ms. Kayley Mendenhall, sits on our Board of Directors. Some 3200 units of blood have been collected through hosted drives and the St. Charles Community Health and Benefit Program has helped support our Chapter financially. Our partnership with St. Charles is particularly focused on public outreach efforts to enhance disaster preparedness. We are also now finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure a smooth, cooperative response between our two organizations in the event of a major local disaster.
FRED MEYER Fred Meyer has been a long standing and very valuable partner to the ARC throughout Oregon. For years, the company has been the Title Sponsor for the Annual Heroes Breakfast events in all five of the Oregon Chapters. We are particularly grateful for their unwavering support of our Oregon Mountain River Chapter over the years. In addition to annual sponsorship of the Heroes Breakfast, our two local Fred Meyer stores have been very supportive of Red Cross events and have hosted drives that have collected 80 units of blood. Corporate Fred Meyer is Full Circle Partner with the Oregon Red Cross and today we would like to present the Redmond and Bend Fred Meyer stores with a Certificate of Appreciation for their continuous support of our local Chapter.
LES SCHWAB TIRE CENTERS Les Schwab is another very important corporate partner to our Central Oregon Chapter of the Red Cross. Corporate Les Schwab has been an annual sponsor of the Heroes Breakfast and in late 2011, at our request, the company made a major donation to Superstorm Sandy Disaster Relief. In addition to this, the eight Central Oregon stores have collectively made a significant donation for the past two years to help support the continuing disaster relief efforts of our local Mountain River Chapter. Blood drives have been conducted at various Les Schwab locations that have resulted in the collection of some 2700 units. We very much value Les Schwab's commitment to the American Red Cross.
