Teen Saves Lives One Leaf at a Time

Red Cross Flag

While most 7th graders worry about how they are going to afford the newest smart phone, 13-year-old Grace Schramm has a deeper issue on her mind. Nothing more eloquently describes Grace’s mission than the flyer she made and posted around her neighborhood, “Neighbors: Please! Please! Let me rake your leaves! The American Red Cross estimates that each day 430 people die of measles. Most of these needless deaths are children. The measles vaccination provides a lifetime of protection and costs $1.00."

Through her efforts, Grace raised $150 which will pay for 150 measles vaccinations. That makes her an Everyday Hero in our book and just goes to show that not all superheroes wear a cape.
