The American Red Cross will hold a variety of free disaster-related classes September 13–20 for the community to become Red Cross disaster trained and learn about volunteer opportunities.
The training event coincides with the 25th anniversary month of Hurricane Hugo when Red Cross opened 238 shelters and housed over 46,000 people. The training is also part of Prepare SC, Red Cross’ landmark, statewide campaign to prepare communities for disasters and to create a stronger more resilient South Carolina.
Classes will be offered at times throughout the day to accommodate all work schedules including early morning, day-time, late-evening, weekdays and weekends. The course schedule is designed so that in just one week a person can gain enough training to become a disaster services volunteer.
In addition to a variety of disaster training classes, a New Volunteer Orientation and Disaster Services Overview will be held:
• Saturday, Sept. 13, 9a.m. – 12:30p.m.
• Thursday, Sept. 18, 11p.m. – 2:30a.m.
• Saturday, Sept. 20, 9a.m. – 12:30p.m.
To register call the Red Cross at 764.2323 x300. All classes will be held at the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter, 2424 City Hall Lane in North Charleston.
