Red Cross to Hold New Volunteer Orientation April 28 in Beaufort

BLUFFTON, S.C., Friday, April 4 – The community is invited to attend a new volunteer orientation April 28 at Beaufort City Hall from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. to learn more about volunteer opportunities with the American Red Cross Palmetto Service Center.  The orientation will give an overview of the services of the Red Cross and how volunteers can be trained to help friends and neighbors in the event of local disasters such as home fires, severe storms and hurricanes.

The Red Cross is also in need of volunteers to support our military community at the Red Cross office on Parris Island.

To register for the orientation on-line go to and click on "volunteer". For more information call 843.757.7437.
The American Red Cross Palmetto Service Center serves Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton and Colleton Counties and is part of the Palmetto SC Region of the American Red Cross.  On average the Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. Since January 1, the Palmetto SC Region has assisted more than 1,300 people affected by disasters in the region.

Red Cross could not have helped these many people without disaster-trained volunteers and the financial support of the community. Volunteers make up 96% of the Red Cross work force.

About the American Red Cross: The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.
