Chapter Responds to Rosebud Reservation

Rosebud Reservation
Two teams responded to storm damage on the Rosebud Reservation.

Two teams from the Black Hills Area Chapter responded to storm damage on the Rosebud Reservation early Wednesday morning. Dan Kuecker, Emergency Services Director for the Black Hills Area Chapter met with Cyril Scott, the President of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. Mr. Cyril expressed his appreciation for our response and assistance for persons impacted by the storm. To date, we have conducted damage assessments in Rosebud, Two Strike, Parmelee and Black Pipe where the worst damage reportedly occurred.

FEMA has released a statement indicating “Several homes were destroyed, roofs were ripped off, trailers were overturned, and windows were broken. At one point, water was coming over the top of several dams in the area.”

At this time, the tribe is not requesting Red Cross assistance with sheltering. Our focus included conducting damage assessments, providing materials for temporary repairs and providing direct client assistance.
