First Aid Station at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

All services provided were free to rally attendees.

2013 marked the 4th year the Black Hills Area Chapter has provided a First Aid/Hydration Station at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

This year we provided first aid services to 119 individuals; 22 of those assisted were referred for additional medical care. As is typical, the weather was warm and our hydration station's FREE water was a great hit. We served approximately 9,600 cups to ensure Rally attendees stayed safely hydrated.

We were delighted to partner with SERV SD this year. SERV SD is a SD Department of Health initiative that pre-registers, manages, and mobilizes clinical and non-clinical volunteers to help in responding to all types of disasters. The volunteer management system is part of a nation-wide effort to make sure that volunteer professionals can be quickly identified and their credentials checked so that they can be properly utilized in response to a public health emergency or disaster.

Our participation in the Rally involved 589 Red Cross worker hours. We are confident that our presence made a positive impact on those visiting our area and reduced the burden of our EMS system during this challenging time. All services provided were free to rally attendees
