Until you have a personal experience like I did during the Memorial Day weekend, you don't realize how sense of how important the little things are until something happens to you. –Steven Vetrano Texas Gulf Coast Regional CEO

The American Red Cross has been helping families across the country impacted by severe weather since early May. Response efforts are made possible by donors, volunteers and incredible corporate partners like Walmart. In this donor spotlight, Anita Foster with the Red Cross shows you how Walmart is helping tornado and flood victims across Texas, including the Red Cross CEO in Houston whose own home was destroyed by the floods.

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are important to the Red Cross because they are a leader in disaster relief and resiliency. Since 2005, when Hurricane Katrina impacted millions, the Red Cross turned to Walmart for help and they have been helping ever since. At that time, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation provided 1,500 truckloads of merchandise, more than 100,000 meals and guaranteed jobs for displaced workers.

Today, Walmart has committed $500,000 to help flood victims across Texas and Oklahoma.

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are working with a broad coalition to engage more people and increase financial resources in preparedness initiatives, including encouraging private and public sector partnerships to proactively equip communities before a disaster strikes.
