Fires Strike Hanover, NH and Bradford, VT -- 11th Red Cross response in 9 days

Fire Safety
Just more than 100 days into 2014, our volunteers have now headed out on 90 reponses.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ... (Hanover, NH and Bradford, VT -- April 13, 2014)  Support for first responders and offers of support to families were at the center of a busy day for disaster services volunteers with the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross.  These two responses continue an extraordinary pace for the Red Cross in 2014 and represent the tenth and eleventh calls in just the past nine days.

The first call today was to a Greensboro Road house in Hanover, NH that was lost to fire.  Red Cross volunteers responded to the scene to extend a helping hand to the home’s two residents.  Immediate needs were being addressed by the community, but referral information was given to help as the two begin a difficult road to recovery.  The volunteers provided support to the multiple fire departments who were on scene to combat the blaze.

The team of volunteers who answered the call for help in Hanover were just finishing up when a second call was received for assistance in the area.  The two members of the Upper Valley Disaster Action Team headed straight to a 4-alarm barn fire on Appleton Road in Bradford, VT.  Once again, support was extended to the first responders.  This included providing food and beverages to everyone on scene.

This past week was National Volunteer Week and one that demonstrated the power and importance of volunteers to the American Red Cross.  The eleven disaster responses handled in our region over the past nine days are just a few of the approximately 70,000 disasters that Red Cross volunteers respond to each year nationwide.  Just more than a hundred days into 2014, volunteers with the Vermont and New Hampshire Upper Valley Red Cross have now headed out on ninety responses.
