WINOOSKI FIRE STRIKES 4-UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING
Red Cross Volunteers On Scene
For the past three hours, American Red Cross disaster services volunteers have been on the scene of a 4-unit apartment fire at 38 River Street, Winooski, VT. When the call came in to the local emergency operations center for the Red Cross, the request was for assistance to the displaced residents and support of the first responders.
Four Disaster Action Team volunteers with the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross have supported the multiple responding fire departments with rehabilitative services in the form of food and hydration. Among the responding volunteers are personnel who have been trained in client case work. Those caseworkers have met with the four residents who occupied three of the building’s four units. Temporary lodging has been arranged for three of the residents and a fourth stated he had a place to stay. The three displaced residents who received lodging also received financial assistance for food and clothing lost in the blaze that destroyed the building.
All emergency assistance provided by the Red Cross is provided without charge. To fund this assistance, and to support the training and tools required to respond, the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross relies upon donations made by members of the community.
