Preparing for the Future
Planting mangrove trees in Indonesia, providing life vests to fishermen in Thailand and mapping evacuation routes in Sri Lanka are just a few examples of our disaster preparedness efforts at work.
As survivors of the December 2004 tsunami continue to recover and rebuild, the American Red Cross, along with the local Red Cross or Red Crescent Society, is ensuring that communities are better prepared by empowering people with the knowledge of what to do during the next disaster.
Three years after the tsunami, survivors are more prepared for the future thanks to the preparedness efforts of the American Red Cross. Disaster preparedness trainings are being expanded with local partners to train thousands of people in more than 430 communities in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
