Central Florida volunteers Tricia Rubino and John Lanzetti were among more than 80 local disaster workers who supported disaster season operations across 10 states.
From California to New York, the American Red Cross worked around the clock this summer and fall to bring vital relief, help and hope to hundreds of thousands of people impacted by yet another season of devastating disasters.
Dedicated Red Cross workers always answer the call to provide comfort and care to people in need, evening during a global pandemic.
From July-October 2021, more than 80 local volunteers accepted disaster relief assignments (both-in person and virtual) supporting major responses across 10 states.
These compassionate volunteers helped in response to natural disasters like Hurricanes Henri and Ida, western wildfires and torrential flooding.
Some supported mass care services like providing safe shelter, offering health and mental health services, serving meals and snacks, distributing emergency relief items, driving emergency response vehicles and conducting disaster assessment.
Others performed critical infrastructure services like information and planning, workforce assignments, technology services and external relations.
And -- in the midst of an international humanitarian crisis -- the Red Cross supported evacuees from Afghanistan and U.S. military members, providing critical care services on several military installations.
These relief operations demonstrate the commitment of the Red Cross to be there in times of crisis, whenever and wherever we are needed. The demand for our aid is greater than ever. Thankfully, the power and commitment of the Red Cross community — fueled by generous supporters -- has never been stronger. Together, we are transforming heartbreak into hope.
