TAMPA, Fla. – MARCH 23, 2022 – Tonight at dusk, Tampa and Orlando will join other cities across the nation in observing Red Cross Month by lighting iconic landmarks RED to honor the organization’s humanitarian mission and its volunteer heroes with this annual tradition. These everyday heroes remind us of the power of the human spirit to shine in times of darkness, just as the lights in our major cities will shine brightly tonight.

In Central Florida, we are pleased to recognize the following municipalities and private entities that have committed to participation in this one-night activity on Red Cross Giving Day, March 23:
 

• City of Tampa (Curtis Hixon Park fountains and palm trees, the Riverwalk, four downtown bridges, Old City Hall)
• Hillsborough County John F. Germany Library (downtown Tampa)
• Straz Center for the Performing Arts (downtown Tampa)
• Tampa Port Authority
• Virage Bayshore (Bayshore Blvd. near downtown)
• City of Orlando (structures of “See Art Orlando” -- Lake Eola fountain, Global Convergence, Take Flight Union, Amway Center Spire, Tower of Light Sculpture, Colonial Drive Overpass)

Red Cross Giving Day is part of Red Cross Month — a national tradition started nearly 80 years ago when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first national Red Cross Month proclamation in 1943 to recognize those giving back through the Red Cross.
