TAMPA, Fla. – October 1, 2023 – The American Red Cross of Central Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands has welcomed a new Regional CEO, Michael D. Brown. He is based out of the regional headquarters in Tampa, where he also serves as Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Chapter.
A 19-year veteran of the Red Cross, Brown officially began his new role on September 1, the day after Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida. He came to Florida from Alabama where he served as Executive Director of the South Alabama Chapter of the Alabama-Mississippi Region of the Red Cross. Prior to that, he led the corporate fundraising team for the Metro Atlanta Chapter in the Georgia Region and served as a disaster fundraising officer for National Headquarters. In addition to his Red Cross career, Brown has also held nonprofit leadership roles with USO and the Boy Scouts of America.
“It is a great honor for me to be a member of this team, and I am humbled and thankful to lead the Central Florida and U.S. Virgin Islands Region in service to our humanitarian mission,” Brown said.
Brown succeeds Eric Corliss in the role, who was promoted earlier this year to the position of Division Disaster Executive for the Red Cross Southeast and Caribbean Division.
The American Red Cross of Central Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands serves 19 Florida counties through five chapters: Florida’s Space Coast (Daytona Beach), Greater Orlando, Mid-Florida (Winter Haven), Southwest Florida (Sarasota) and Tampa Bay; and the Virgin Islands territories of St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John and Water Island.
