Three Central Florida volunteers departed this week for South Florida to support the Red Cross disaster response to historic rainfall that dropped more than 25 inches of rain on Fort Lauderdale in a 24-hour period, according to the National Weather Service. The trio traveled on April 20 which is recognized as National Volunteer Appreciation Day.
Currently, 20 Central Florida responders are assigned to disaster relief operations including the flooding in South Florida and the deadly tornadoes in Mississippi and Arkansas. More than 60 have answered the call since the start of 2023 to help in California, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and South Florida.
