The American Red Cross is asking Central Floridians to remember those families impacted by disaster and to #help1family on Giving Day, Wednesday, April 26. Financial donations provide hope and urgent relief such as food, blankets and other essentials to people who need it most.
In Central Florida, the Red Cross responds to an average of three disasters a day – 93 percent of which are home fires – and comes to the aid of more than 4,000 people each year affected by devastating disasters like tornadoes, floods and hurricanes.
Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising campaign supporting the work of the Red Cross, helping people in communities like Central Florida each and every day in need of emergency support. “This one-day nationwide event will raise funds to ensure the Red Cross is able to meet the critical mission of helping those families who have been affected by emergencies,” said Hugh Quinn, Interim Regional Executive, American Red Cross of Central Florida.
In addition to responding to disasters, Red Cross health and safety instructors teach more than 50,000 Central Floridians life-saving skills each year so our communities can be better prepared for what may come. Another program, Services to the Armed Forces (SAF), helps and supports an average of 10,000 members of the military, veterans and their families each year.
