The 9th Annual Ride for the Red motorcycle run will be held Labor Day weekend to raise funds for the American Red Cross’ Finger Lakes Chapter’s local services, including the Service to the Armed Forces program. The event is supported by the Arkport-Corning HOG (Harley Owners Group) chapter and Arkport Harley-Davidson. This year’s ride is in honor of local Veterans and Gold Star families from all wars.
The weekend kicks off on Friday afternoon, Sept. 1 at 5:30 p.m. with a short ride from Americas Best Value Inn, 196 South Hamilton St., Painted Post, NY. The Ride for the Red main event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2 from the American Legion, 45 Olcott Road S, Big Flats, NY. The ride will be led by NYS motorcycle Troopers through the beautiful Finger Lakes Region.
Pre-registration online is highly recommended at www.CorningRideForTheRed.org by Aug. 18. On-site registration runs from 9 to 11 a.m. The led ride leaves at 11:30 a.m. sharp.
T-shirts are guaranteed for pre-registered riders and passengers. Also included are meals after the ride. The pre-registration cost is $25 for the rider and $25 for the passenger. Onsite registration cost is $30 for the rider and $30 for the passenger (limited quantity of T-shirts available day of the ride).
The perpetual Chapter Challenge Award, similar to the Stanley Cup, will be awarded to the club with the most number of participating members. This award will be presented again at future Ride for the Red events.
The American Red Cross will also hold a blood drive at the Big Flats American Legion on Saturday, Sept. 2 from 1 to 5 p.m.
