Introduction
To help the American Red Cross celebrate its 125th anniversary, the 48 Hour Film Project held its first ever Invitational short film competition. The 48 Hour Film Project (the Project) is a short-film competition taking place in cities across the country. Its aim is to encourage filmmakers or would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies.
Six of the Project's best filmmakers were invited to compete. Each received a different genre, and all filmmakers were provided a character, prop and line of dialogue that had to be incorporated into their films. The project took place the weekend of March 17-19. All work – from scripting to editing – occurred during the competition weekend. Each film is approximately 125 seconds long and features a thematic tie to the American Red Cross.
A group of volunteer American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet Members selected a first place winner of Best Film and the second winner was selected by YOU -- the American public.
The voters made this a close race, too. Winners were announced at the American Red Cross Convention in Washington, D.C. on Friday, May 12, by Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet Member Jane Seymour and special guest James Keach. And so, without further ado, the winners are...
