COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, November 19, 2020 – A brush fire on the west side of Bear Creek Park has prompted mandatory evacuations for residents west of Vista Grande Drive. The American Red Cross of Southeast Colorado has opened an evacuation center at Cheyenne Mountain High School - 1200 Cresta Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
Red Cross volunteers are there and are prepared and ready to accommodate anyone needing information or other assistance. They are also helping people with immediate needs, lodging, supplies and support.
The American Red Cross has developed new policies to align with CDC safety recommendations and have created a series of virtual trainings and materials to ensure our disaster responders are aware of the changes and prepared to respond to disasters.
Our physical presence may not look the same as it did before the pandemic, but rest assured that we are still providing comfort and support to anyone in need after a disaster. During this pandemic, while the nation is practicing social distancing, we’re now providing some disaster relief virtually, including mental health support and financial assistance.
