Red Cross responded to 54 events, assisting 127 people for the 4-week period ending October 28, 2018
Denver, Friday, November 2, 2018 – Down the Street, Across the Country, Around the World. That phrase demonstrates the commitment that the staff and volunteers of the Colorado & Wyoming Region have made and truly demonstrated. Not only did our disaster responders help 127 people in our two-state region, they deployed across an 8,000-mile distance to bring help and hope to those in need. We were among the first to deploy to support recover from Hurricane Michael in the southeast U.S. and among the first to respond to the needs of Hawaii, Guam and the Mariana Islands following hurricanes and super typhoons.
“I saw utter destruction and despair when I arrived but by the time I left there was hope and recovery,” one Red Cross disaster worker said after returning from northern Florida.
Our volunteers and staff continue to deploy to disaster zones where the need for Red Cross support continues. Many of our volunteers have deployed multiple times with only short recovery periods between deployments. Some deployed to Florida for Hurricane Michael and also deployed to the Northern Marian Islands for Super Typhoon Yutu.
The need continues, and the Red Cross needs your help. Support hurricane relief wherever it is needed by visiting redcross.org, calling 1- 800-RED CROSS or texting the word HURR2018 to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
